Fishing & White Tails Mix

This year Sunset Lodge had the opportunity to participate in the White Tails Unlimited, Cedar Wapsi Chapter, Janesville, IA annual banquet. Ralph F. of Independance, IA was the successful bidder for our trip - a 7 day fishing package plan for 2 persons. The banquet is an important fund raising event for the chapter and we are glad that we will have the opportunity to meet Ralph and his party when they hit the waters of Red Lake, Ontario this summer. Thanks to the organizers of the event, we hope it was very successful!

Red Lake Muskie!

Art sent us this photo of the Muskie that he latched on to on the waters of Red Lake. At Sunset Lodge, fishermen have regularly reported catching the occasional Muskie while casting for northern pike - usually in the vicinity of St. Paul's Bay. When we reported a tagged muskie to the MNR, this helped to confirm their theory that during periods of high water, Muskie navigate to Red Lake through the river system from Flat and Russet Lakes.

Art caught his Muskie on a Johnson Silver Minnow off one of the islands in August of 07. This beauty Muskie measured in at 42 inches!

New from Homeland Security

This news feed arrived in my mailbox today from the US Department of Homeland Security so I will share with you the information regarding border crossing which will go into effect on 31 January 2008:

"Land/Sea Travel

Beginning January 31, 2008, the United States will end the practice of accepting oral declarations of citizenship at the border.

These are the same qualifications as in the past - identification and proof of citizenship. If you view the complete list of acceptable documents, the enhanced drivers license is now on the list when they become available. Good news for fishermen and hunters driving to Sunset Lodge.
