We are still watching the ice. The Red Lake Coffee house buzz has Howey Bay at 20" and candled, so it is looking that Red Lake has lost about a foot of ice in the past week or so. The channel at Dinner bay has opened. Bug River is opening. I travelled to Thunder Bay today and many lakes south have lifted.
What we need is for everyone to send up a request to Ma Nature, God or whoever may be listening for warm weather - wind and/or rain. Hopefully next week, we will have eyes in the sky that will tell us what the west end is doing. Talk to you soon.

Ice Conditions on Red Lake
We are, like everyone else, keeping an eye on the ice on Red Lake. It is still early and we have had the good fortune to have warm weather and rain on the way. Chukuni & Skookum bridges are opening and we have a lot of snow - the runoff really helps ice out progress. The bay in front of Sunset Lodge now has a lot of water on it - and that is always good to see. Consensus at the coffee shop is that the ice this year is poor quality so this will help as well. Stay tuned... will update again next week. And may the temp stay above freezing!
