Sure Signs of Fall at Sunset Lodge
Last week I mentioned the Red Lake Fall Classic and those of you who visit regularly in Sept know that that means Bear Hunting season is upon us. Our black bear hunters were in over the past couple of weeks and were 5 for 5. The unusual part of all this is that even in early September, there were still blueberries to contend with. After last years horrid weather, Rene opted for hunting Sunset Lodge Bear Management Area from logging roads and the 4-wheelers were put to the test. All hunters got their bear and Mike B. was able to capitalize and take down a chocolate color phase bear - at last poll, it is headed for a head and shoulder mount. We celebrated with some sauteed bear heart - really tasty!

Red Lake Classic Walleye Derby Results
Well I finally got down to reading The Northern Sun News and will pass along the standings for the Red Lake Walleye Fall Classic held on Labor Day weekend. Top spot of $11,000.00 went to the Dryden team of Scott Lobreau and Mike Mackie with a two day total of 31.44 lbs. Those of you who remember Ian Cooke, yes, he was in the walleye derby again this year with partner Jeff. They came in 24th in the pack with a two day total of 27.28 lb. The Red Lake Walleye Classic remains a premier attraction with a waiting list already started for the 2009 event.

Tiger Muskie on Red Lake
Wally was visiting from Iowa last week and insisted on a sport fishing license. In previous years at Sunset Lodge, he has had some interesting follow-ups and thought some of them were those elusive Red Lake Muskie. Well it paid off big time for him! Wally fought and landed a 45.5 inch Tiger Muskie for his wall! Congrats on your trophy Wally!
